I received something from the Domain Registry of America about renewing and transferring my domain. Is this legitimate? Do I need to contact them? No, there is no need to respond to solicitations from the Domain Registry of America. Emissary has no affiliation with the Domain Registry of America (DRoA), and we do not provide DRoA with any domain or customer information.

In fact, what you have received is not actually a domain renewal notice. Instead, this notice is inviting you to transfer your domain from your current registrar to DRoA which we strongly advise you against doing because it could easily stop your email or cause your website to disappear, or more likely make it much harder for your web guys to manage your site.

If we registered your domain on your behalf, we make sure it is automatically renewed so you don’t have to worry about your domain expring. We’ll just send you an invoice when your renewal is due - that’s all you’ll need to worry about! You may occasionally receive letters from Nominet for .uk domains, but that’s all. If you registered it directly with a registrar, you just need to make sure you respond to requests ONLY from that registrar for renewals - these usually come via email.

As a general practice, if you receive any hosting or domain-related invoice from a company that you don’t recognize, contact your web company who should be happy to help you manage your online presence.
